On 23 March, the University will organise the Humanities Student Conference. We are pleased to invite both students and academics to participate in Utrecht University’s Humanities Student Conference “Conceptual Crossroads: Rethinking Paradigms of Borders and Migration”. During this conference, we would like to critically reflect on epistemic and ontological characteristics of the concepts of migration and borders in order to deconstruct them, broaden their implications and search for new ways of engaging with them. Our selection of these two concepts as dialectically intertwined comes from an understanding of their centrality, interrelatedness and their potential to create new insights on the matter. The conference will offer a platform to various academics and MA/PhD students from different disciplines within the Humanities, who are affiliated with the theme of migration.

After a succesful afternoon in a swimmingpool in Brooklyn, it is almost time for the next Accie activity. On the 1st of May it is time for Diner Roulé!
In this event, there is place for 9 cooking couples and 18 eating couples. The cooking couples will prepare a 3-course menu. Every course, two new eating couples will join them and enjoy the 5-star meals. Every round you will dine with four other people, which means there is lots of time of talking, meeting and exchanging experiences.
Eating couples can sign up by transferring €15, for the both of you, to the UHSK (NL39INGB0005360314). Please send an email to email@example.com with both your names and any allergies or diet wishes.
Cooking couples can sign up by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with both your names and your wish to become a cooking couple. When the time is ripe, we will ask you for your address and your menu, so we can start making the schedule. Please start thinking about the courses you are going to prepare. You will get a budget of 50 euros for the food (and drinks!!!). Don’t forget to keep the receipts.
On the 1st of May the eating couples will gather at Janskerkhof at 17:15. There you will get your schedule which tells you where to go. The different kitchens will be all across Utrecht, so don’t forget your bike.
Now that we've had the first days of nice weather and good times in the sun we can finally say the words: spring is upon us! With spring, there's always a wave of holidays and this year, the UHSK is going to celebrate one of these special days a little more than usual: Bevrijdingsdag, the day us Dutchies were liberated from German occupation in WWII. On 3 May, the UHSK is going to celebrate the fact that we can live in freedom in this country with a good old 'borrel' in our beloved bar at Kromme Nieuwegracht 20! Of course, this will include the usual free drinks and snacks. We hope to see you all there!
Date: 3 May 2018
Location: The foyer of Kromme Nieuwegracht 20, Utrecht
As you might know there has been an ongoing debate within the UHSK on how a new board should or should not be formed. Our usual way has always been criticized, however due to the recent uptake of the debate, we as the board would like to facilitate this discussion. This is why, on the 8th of May, we will organise a discussion night, where we will discuss the most relevant ways to form a board. The results of the discussion on that night will be presented to the General Members Meeting (ALV). Prior to the discussion night some new ways will be discussed on the three preceding ‘stuurgroepen’. If you have some serious ideas on how a new board should be formed please let us know and send an email to email@example.com. So if you're interested in this topic please join us on the 8th!
Date: 8th of May
Can’t you wait for those lovely days at the campsite, where you are burning your meat at the BBQ while playing badminton in your tracksuit? Without embarrassment showing your belly sitting on a plastic chair and drinking one of those big cans of beer? Driving through the tents of your neighbors with the forklift truck you brought from your work? (For more information about this typically Dutch behavior, see video ‘New Kids op de Camping’ on YouTube)
Do not worry fellow campinglovers! We, the party committee, have planned a big party on the 9th of May. We proudly present: FeCo Camping Life!
With the slogan ‘Achter de tent word je een vent’ which could be translated as: ‘You become a man behind the tent’, the UHSK-members will make their way to a real camping paradise. The typically Dutch ‘gezelligheid’ at the camping will make a great evening where everyone can show their inner Sjonnie or Anita. Put on your most beautiful fanny pack, cover yourself in sunscreen and jump in to your campervan.
We’d love to see you at the campsite!
Entrance: €3 for members of the UHSK, €4 for non-members
Tokens: €2 each
Time: 22:00 - 04:00
Location: De Grote Catacomben
Oudegracht a/d Werf 219, 3511 NH Utrecht
