SymCo: Symposium

The Dutch relationship with Africa is long and complicated. For this symposium, the SymCo decided to have a look at more positive and hopeful aspects of the contemporary relations with the continent, which is why we are proud to present our wonderful guests:

Former Minister for Development Cooperation Jan Pronk (1971-1977, 1989-1998) will discuss his large role in shaping Dutch developmental aid policy, and current changes in contemporary political debates. Lt-Gen (b.d.) Kees Matthijssen will share his experiences representing the Netherlands as a part of both national and international missions in Srebrenica, Iraq, Afghanistan and finally Mali, where he served as Force Commander of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) from 2022 to 2023. Finally, co-founder of the Dutch Anti-Apartheid Movemnet AABN Conny Braam will speak on the special Dutch role in the global struggle against Apartheid, including the so-called Operation Vula.
The symposium will be held at the Louis Hartlooper Complex, from 18.00 until 21.00, with drinks afterwards. The walk-in is until 18:10, so make sure to be on time. Since there are limited spots available, you are required to sign up using the link. We can't wait to see you there!

Please fill in the following form to let us know whether you're a member or external guest, and if you'd like to join the drinks afterwards.
