HMD: Holocaust Memorial Day 2023

SIGN UP NOW!

This year’s edition of the Holocaust Memorial Day takes place on January 30th in the Academiegebouw.

On November 1st, 2005, Kofi Annan, then Secretary-General of the United Nations, proclaimed the liberation date of Auschwitz, January 27th, as a day of remembrance: the Holocaust Memorial Day. Globally, this day commemorates the victims of the Holocaust and other genocides such as those in Cambodia, Rwanda, Srebrenica, and Darfur.

In cooperation with the University of Utrecht, the UHSK organizes its own annual Holocaust Memorial Day on which various speakers give a lecture on a theme concerning genocide. This year will be about the remembrance of the Holocaust trauma and that of other genocides through an interdisciplinary approach. Various speakers from different research areas will give a lecture on this topic.
